Baringo County, 2nd August 2024
In a historic event that promises to transform the lives of thousands, President William Ruto officially commissioned the Chemususu Last Mile Connectivity project on Friday, 2nd August 2024. This landmark initiative, held at the heart of Baringo County, represents a significant step forward in the government’s commitment to improving water access for all citizens.
The Chemususu Dam, a crucial water reservoir, has long been a lifeline for the residents of Baringo. However, many communities have struggled with limited access to this vital resource. The Last Mile Connectivity project aims to bridge this gap by extending water supply networks to reach the most remote and underserved areas of the county.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Ruto highlighted the transformative impact of the project. “Today marks a new chapter for Baringo County. This project is not just about water; it’s about health, education, and economic empowerment. Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and we are committed to ensuring that every Kenyan can enjoy this right,” he stated.
The project, implemented by Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (CRVWWDA), has been lauded for its innovative approach and community-centered design. The initiative includes the construction of additional pipelines, water storage facilities, and distribution points, ensuring that clean and safe water reaches even the most remote households.
During the event, local leaders and residents expressed their gratitude and optimism for the future. Musa Kiptoo, a resident of one of the newly connected areas, shared his joy, saying, “For years, we have struggled to get enough water for our daily needs. With this project, our lives will change for the better. Our children will be healthier, and we can focus on other important activities.”
The Chemususu Last Mile Connectivity project is expected to benefit over 50,000 residents, enhancing their quality of life and fostering sustainable development in the region. The President emphasized that this project is part of a broader national strategy to improve infrastructure and public services, ensuring equitable access for all Kenyans.
